Midtown Inc. (Headquarter: Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takahiro Nakamura) delivered a talk at Nagoya Innovators Garage “Liberal Arts Night (7th Term) – Session 9: Space Business,” under the theme “Future Markets Opened by Private Space Development: Behind the Scenes of growing from 2 to 200 Space Startups.”

Nakamura explained how Japan’s space industry is now at a major turning point, rapidly shifting from a closed, government-led domain to a private-sector-led growth market. He also shared the latest trends showing that space is no longer limited to traditional space companies focused on rocket launches and satellites; companies across a wide range of industries—such as materials, construction, energy, communications, AI, and entertainment—are increasingly entering the space sector. He further organized the key drivers of this growth into the following three trends:
1.Expansion of financing for space startups through IPOs and venture capital (VC)
2.Unprecedented levels of government funding and institutional support
3.An influx of talent and technology driven by the participation of companies from diverse industries

In addition, Nakamura shared behind-the-scenes insights into how he founded and grew the space startup “ispace.” Nagoya Innovators Garage
